AdminRealizing the decision making process has been a long one, Gary Dicker has stated that leaving has been a tough decision or him as he prepares to start his next chapter with the MLS of Charlotte FC.
Dicker a loyal filer with well over 150 appearances for the Seagulls has left to take up a coaching position with the Albion’s academy after a triumphant 3 year stint. The 38-year-old is fully motivated to advance his career as a coach and he considers the MLS chance as very ‘uniquely’ and ‘intriguing.’
Thinking about that, Dicker finds examples like Graham Potter who, taking an unconventional path, became successful. Looking at my chosen path, I think it is going to look like that too where one has to go against the trend to achieve the intended end. Visiting the United States which has seen tremendous growth of the league is a great opportunity for me to advance my career professionally,” Dicker told the Albion website.
Caught unawares with this chance, Dicker went into contemplation. He agreed with what he said about his own career advancement because he knows that the position is not going to be such a prestigious one straight away. Analyzing young talents experience such as 31 years old Fabian Hurzeler who joined Brighton last summer from St Pauli, Dicker’s dream is to be amongst the managerial list in the MLS and shoot at the top most coaching position.
In his own words, Dicker confidently added, “I want to be a manager of a first team in the MLS. It is a business that prefers the young, and, as we can see with our coach here. Yet, deeds of his colleagues he has singled out, focused on making a difference wherever he goes and tries to achieve what has been done before him.
This massive surge not only impacts Dicker personally, but his family as well, who are entirely from Brighton. I have my wife from here and of course her entire family. My children were brought up at this place. They are organ donors and have always been supportive and sacrificing for me,” Dicker said.
Acknowledging the enormous role played by Brighton in molding his life, Dicker says that this departure is not the end. He wishes, with hope, to come back one fine day.
