AdminDerby County has returned to the English football top tier, the Championship, after two seasons out, but the journey to back to the premier league will indeed be a difficult one compared to say that of Leeds United as seen by former Derby player Jayden Bogle.
Derby County’s recent history has seen them lose the playoffs, the club nearly collapsing financially, and ending in League One. The Rams, which have been helped by Paul Warne’s leadership, are bringing themselves back to the Championship where they are slowly finding themselves again.
Manager David Clowes is in the process of an ambitious plan to build Derby County into a stable that may mean that fans will have to endure more years before they get to see the ‘Reds’ compete again for the title with the giants of the league. Bogle may have come to the right conclusion observing that Leeds United is a bigger team than Derby, but the fan base is not going to take quite well to this fact.
As it stands in today’s Championship, there are heavyweights on show in the likes of Leeds United, the two Sheffield teams, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers and so on, all of which are footballing giants.
Current Leeds player, the former Derby one, Jayden Bogle revealed the difference in the teams’ banners pointing at Leeds as having a ‘winning culture and pressure.’ Indeed, Bogle’s decision to regard Leeds as the biggest club he has ever been a member of goes well with current and past disparities that exist between the two clubs.
Derby County has not been at the top in English football for the last fifteen years and in the history of the English league as a whole as compared to Leeds United with nine major trophies including league and European cups. Derby has not been so fortunate as it has only won four top honors, which includes the Chームypes League, but has never captured a European trophy.
Still, Derby County has been far from those glorious times, with quite limited successes, featured by title-worthy campaigns of the 1971/72 and 1974/75 seasons. Despite Pride Park as a profound stadium in English football, the terrible performance in the 2007/08 season is still cast as the embarrassing memory.
