News arrives at a particularly delicate moment for the NRL organization
Brisbane Broncos media manager Melissa Mallet has been charged with high-range drink driving after purportedly colliding with two vehicles close to the team’s headquarters earlier this month.
Mallet, 39, faces charges for driving under the influence of alcohol following the reported incident that occurred around 9:45 PM on June 2.
The ex-Channel Nine reporter is alleged to have struck her Kia Sorrento into two parked cars on Tooth Avenue, Paddington, approximately 3 kilometers north-west of Brisbane’s central business district.
Authorities were summoned to the location.
“The driver is said to have returned a positive result on a roadside test and was taken to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation,” stated Queensland Police in a report.
Law enforcement indicated that the “Kia Sorrento did not stop and sought to perform a U-turn, before local residents provided assistance to the driver exiting the vehicle. “

Mallet is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 8 and has been absent from work since the alleged incident.
The Brisbane Broncos confirmed in a statement that they are aware of a traffic incident involving a staff member that occurred earlier this month.
āOur primary concern is for the health and wellbeing of the staff member, who has been on personal leave since the incident,ā the club stated.
The allegations surfaced shortly after Broncos player Ezra Mam participated in media interviews to address his drug-driving accident in Brisbane that happened on October 18 last year.
Mam received a fine of $850 and a six-month driving disqualification. His system tested positive for cocaine following the accident, which resulted in a mother and her infant daughter being hospitalized, with the child sustaining a fractured hip.
Additionally, he faced a nine-match suspension from the NRL along with a $120,000 fine.
Mam’s interviews came after the Broncos engaged crisis management consultant Grant Williams to assist the team in restoring its brand image.
Williams was enlisted following recent controversies, including Mamās incident, the release of a video showing star Reece Walsh striking a friend, and the termination of veteran Marty Taupau after he appeared to criticize coach Michael Maguire on social media.
The allegation against Mallet surfaced shortly after Broncos player Ezra Mam (pictured) shared his experience regarding his incident of drug-fueled driving, an action widely interpreted as the organizationās effort to enhance its reputation following recent controversies.
The location of Malletās alleged incident is conveniently located within walking distance from the Broncos’ headquarters in Red Hill and is approximately one kilometer from where Mam’s crash took place.
Brisbane and the NRL faced significant backlash for not imposing a longer suspension on Mam.
“I caused an accident. The realization of my actions and the possibility of harming someone or affecting their lifeā¦ itās something I must confront daily,” Mam expressed over the weekend.
“I have immense regrets. I regret the entire situation. First and foremost, I wish I had simply stopped at the outset. I regret driving without a license; it was an irresponsible decision.
“The most significant lesson Iāve learned is that my choices can lead to consequences, not just for myself, but, more critically, for others. It’s a thought that occupies my mind every day. I genuinely remorse what I did, and I am working to address it positively. “
