AdminThe Brisbane Broncos have officially acknowledged what many considered an open secret in rugby league as they work on shaping their roster for the 2026 NRL season and the years to follow. While this news was widely recognized within rugby league circles, the club has confirmed that outside back Grant Anderson from Melbourne Storm has signed a two-year deal for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
Anderson will join the team at Red Hill with over 35 first-grade games under his belt, enhancing their depth in the outside back position as Selwyn Cobbo is set to leave after this season. Capable of playing fullback, wing, or center, Anderson has netted ten tries in just 12 matches this season, boasting an impressive average of 142 running meters per game.
“Grant is an exceptional player with a demonstrated track record at the NRL level, and we’re confident he’ll be a significant asset to the Broncos both on and off the field,” Broncos GM of Football Troy Thomson remarked in a statement. “He’s been in stellar form and consistently proves to be both reliable and highly adaptable across the backline. “
The Broncos have also revealed that Josiah Karapani has re-signed on a two-year extension, keeping him with the club until the conclusion of the 2027 season.
Joining the Broncos at the beginning of 2023 after a period with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Karapani has been an essential backup outside back for the team and recently tallied four tries in his last two matches, stepping in for the departed Selwyn Cobbo.
At just 23, Karapani has a promising career ahead and has displayed flashes of brilliance whether playing in the centers or on the wing.
“My family comments on the significant change they see in me since they last visited, particularly regarding my professionalism and preparation, which I attribute to the support of the staff and coaches,” Karapani reflected.
“I truly appreciate the bond, the culture of the club, and how quickly the boys and I became close. The fans add to the experience, creating a vibrant atmosphere when we play at Suncorp Stadium.
“I’m gradually getting settled within this team… I am eager to enhance my competitiveness on the field and pursue the ultimate goal, which is the premiership. “
