Wests Tigers fullback Heath Mason is facing a suspension for inappropriate behavior towards a match official during Friday night’s game against Manly.

Mason has been charged with Grade 2 Contrary Conduct after colliding with referee Gerard Sutton in the 15th minute of his team’s 28-10 defeat at 4 Pines Park.

He will be absent from the Round 18 matchup against the Sydney Roosters if he accepts an early plea, or he risks a two-match suspension if he chooses to challenge the charge at Tuesday night’s judiciary.

Knight lock Phoenix Crossland has been charged with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle for his first half hit on Raiders forward Corey Horsburgh in Friday night’s 22-18 loss at McDonald Jones Stadium. Crossland is facing a monetary penalty.

Bulldogs back-rower Viliame Kikau has received a charge for a Careless High Tackle after Thursday night’s defeat to the Panthers.

Kikau’s 27th-minute tackle on Nathan Cleary during the match at CommBank Stadium has been categorized as a Grade 1 offense, marking his second similar infraction.

By pleading guilty early, Kikau risks a $1,800 fine, which could escalate to $2,500 if he contests the charge and is unsuccessful.

In other news, Eels players Will Penisini and Ryley Smith, as well as Panthers back-rower Scott Sorensen and Cowboys forward Karl Lawton, have all been suspended following Round 16.

Penisini will be sidelined for the next three matches after accepting an early plea for a Grade 2 Dangerous Throw charge related to his 79th-minute tackle on Titans forward Beau Fermor on Sunday.

Smith has also been charged with a Grade 2 Dangerous Throw for his 62nd-minute tackle on Titans winger Phillip Sami and will miss two games.

The variation in their suspension lengths is attributed to the fact that this is Penisini’s second similar offense.

Lawton has pleaded guilty early to a Grade 3 Dangerous Contact charge for a ‘cannonball’ tackle on Roosters second-rower Siua Wong, resulting in a two-game suspension.

Sorensen will miss two games after accepting an early guilty plea for a hip drop tackle on Warriors winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

Rule 41BB If a Player faces a charge for an offense that carries a financial penalty and is not listed on his Club’s Top 30 NRL roster at the time of the charge in the NRL Competition, that Player has the option to serve a 1 Match Suspension instead of paying the fine.
