The 35-year-old was released by Brisbane in May after he expressed support for a social media post that criticized Broncos head coach Michael Maguire. Taupau acknowledges that this decision was difficult for him to handle. “It was certainly a blow,” he stated to Code Sports.
“One must take a moment to breathe and accept the situation, focusing on what is now in front of you and what you can control. That’s where you find growth. . . Everything happens for a reason. ”
Despite the silence following the incident raising speculation about the end of his career, Marty asserts he is far from done.
“I am not retiring,” he stated. “I’m maintaining the same training regime I followed at the Broncos. It’s all about maintaining a routine and being consistent. ”
The formidable player expressed optimism about future opportunities.
“If nothing materializes, we reassess – it’s simply another change in direction. ”
While there are no definitive connections yet, a move to the Super League has been suggested as a potential future path. On The Bloke in a Bar podcast, former Super League player Justin Horo labeled the Broncos’ decision as “extremely harsh” and noted that Taupau could potentially excel in the Super League if he doesn’t find another opportunity in the NRL.
In the past, Taupau has been associated with Super League teams, but those discussions have not advanced beyond speculation.
As the June 30 deadline approaches, which marks the last chance for NRL teams to register new player signings or transfers for the season, his situation remains intriguing.
Nonetheless, should Taupau not secure an NRL position by the deadline, he still has the alternative of pursuing an opportunity within the Super League, where the transfer window is open until August 1.
Meanwhile, the international player shared with Code Sports that he has been busy establishing a stationery business alongside his wife, Michelle.
Additionally, he intends to introduce a school program to raise awareness about social media, drawing from his personal experiences as a cautionary lesson. “It’s about being aware of oneself,” he explained. “Even a simple action like liking a post can wield significant consequences. ”
Regardless of where his path leads him, Taupau is certain about one thing – he is not finished yet.
