AdminThe Edmonton Oilers keep adding forwards to their roster. On Wednesday, it was announced that Curtis Lazar had joined the team. This is a $775,000 one-year deal. Edmonton made the announcement early Thursday afternoon.
The Edmonton Oilers have signed Curtis Lazar to a one-year contract.
During his 11-year NHL career, Lazar has played for the Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and New Jersey Devils. In 48 games with the Devils the previous season, the 30-year-old finished with two goals and three assists for five points. During the previous campaign, his average time was 10 minutes and 34 seconds. Lazar’s relative Corsi was -14.4 and his Corsi was 39.6 In 572 career games, the product of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, has scored 125 points with 47 goals and 78 assists. In the 2013 NHL Draft, Ottawa was initially selected 17th overall in the first round. His 2021–22 season with the Bruins, in which he scored eight goals and 16 points, was his greatest offensive year.
Throughout his international career, he has represented his home country of Canada. At the 2012 Hlinka-Gretzky Tournament, Lazar was a member of the Canadian team that took home the gold. At the 2015 IIHF World Juniors, which were held in Toronto and Montreal, he was also a member of the gold-medal winners.
What It Signifies
Lazar might be considered a replacement for Connor Brown, who left for the Devils in free agency, as a result of this transaction. Lazar weighs 211 pounds and is six feet tall, making him a large man. He will probably be in the bottom six and add some toughness to that group.
Andrew Mangiapane was one of the signings Edmonton made last Tuesday night. But this is another addition to the team’s depth. With the acquisition of Evan Bouchard, the Oilers handled some significant business. Nonetheless, there is still work to be done.
Before the summer is out, Edmonton hopes to finalize the Connor McDavid contract. This is an inexpensive offer that will contribute to the lineup’s completion.
