The Brisbane Broncos have reportedly put forward a new contract proposal to Kobe Hetherington, a forward currently without a contract, as they aim to finalize their squad for the upcoming season in the months ahead.
Throughout 2024, there were ongoing concerns that Hetherington might depart Red Hill for an alternative team; however, since Michael Maguire took the helm as head coach, the lock forward has thrived on the pitch.
Versatile in playing various forward positions, Hetherington is the offspring of former Queensland Maroons representative Jason Hetherington and has drawn comparisons to the legendary Origin player Trevor Gillmeister due to his strong work ethic and tenacity in all aspects of play.

Since making his debut in 2021, he has arguably reached the peak of his career in the last year, starting in every match except three out of his 16 appearances this season and representing the Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea at the conclusion of 2024.
Following the initiation of discussions about a new agreement with Hetherington in February, The Courier-Mail states that the club has offered him a two-year contract extension, ensuring his place at Red Hill until the culmination of the 2027 NRL season.
It is believed that, while Hetherington and his management have not yet finalized the terms, he is anticipated to sign the contract shortly as the Broncos pursue their journey toward the 2025 NRL Finals.
Before the commencement of the 2025 State of Origin series, the forward has garnered the attention of Queensland Maroons selectors and had previously drawn interest from the Gold Coast Titans, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Wests Tigers.

“Kobe has been outstanding this year. He has made a significant impact for us,” remarked Broncos coach Michael Maguire.
“He started last weekend with the Origin players absent, yet he has also been coming off the bench to elevate the pace of the game. Kobe is a true team player and has made a tremendous impact with several of his runs. His defensive skills have been exceptional.

“Since I arrived, I’ve sought that kind of character within the team, and he has consistently demonstrated that. “
