In the meantime, standout dummy-half Blayke Brailey has expressed his desire to stay with the Cronulla Sharks. Warriors supporters have relished watching their team rise to fourth place on the ladder in 2025, led by their promising young talent during an impressive season.
It seems the Warriors are intent on targeting the Broncos’ development areas for new talent as they plan to set up a facility in Logan. The New Zealand club has seen numerous junior players secure scholarships with Australian teams as they advance through the ranks.
The Logan Brothers have produced a plethora of NRL stars over the years, but few have ever donned the Warriors’ colors, despite a significant population of New Zealand migrants in Southeast Queensland. Consequently, the Warriors have seen these Kiwi-born talents join surrounding clubs, as pathways to return home have been lacking.
Given that Australia offers more avenues into rugby league, many New Zealand players have migrated in search of chances. One notable example is Benji Marshall, who relocated to Queensland as a youth and was soon recognized as a standout player, eventually progressing through the Wests Tigers system.
The club is now dedicated to providing locals the opportunity to join the Warriors’ junior ranks. The Warriors aim to discover talent in the Logan area and create alternative pathways into the NRL via their programs.
“Our primary focus at the club is the individual,” remarked Warriors CEO George Cameron. “Itās about more than just rugby ā it’s about creating opportunities for all young individuals to realize their potential. Our elite academy for boys and girls in Logan will facilitate a direct connection to the Warriors’ NRL and NRLW teams. Through our community initiatives, we will also offer come-and-try days, school engagements, and talent scouting. “
The Brisbane Broncos have historically benefited the most from a town passionate about rugby league that has supplied them with superstars, but teams like the Cowboys, Titans, and more recently, the Dolphins, have also gained from this talent pool. Now the Warriors aim to secure the next Cameron Smith or Corey Parker, who both came from Logan Brothers juniors, as rugby league continues to expand in New Zealand.
Blayke Brailey aims to stay with Cronulla. On another note, the Sharks have initiated new contract discussions with their No. 9, Brailey, who has indicated he wants to stay with the team. Brailey made his debut for the Sharks in 2019 and has developed into a potential Origin star on the horizon. Currently enjoying his best season, he recently delivered another player-of-the-match performance against the Roosters. Although Brailey would attract considerable interest should he decide to leave, the 26-year-old has reassured Sharks fans by stating his intention to remain in Cronulla.
“I have not given any thought to facing Cronulla,” Brailey stated. “I have a deep affection for this club and this region. My upbringing was here. I witnessed Gal raise the trophy in 2016, and I aspire to be back in that moment. I participated on the family hill at Shark Park. To me, this location is home, and I hope the club recognizes that as well. This is certainly home for me.”
