Easy decision”: Star Pie strikes a serious blow to a poor competitor by squelching trade rumours with a new

Collingwood player Darcy Cameron has decided to stay with the team by signing a three-year contract extension, which puts an end to talks about a possible hold-up with his deal.

The 30-year-old player’s new contract was revealed early Monday by the Magpies, ensuring he will remain with the team until the conclusion of the 2029 season.

Cameron joined Collingwood from Sydney after playing only one game in three seasons at the end of 2019. Since then, he has been an important part of Craig McRae’s team, playing 115 games. He was the main ruckman for the team during their 2023 championship and was included in last year’s 44-member All-Australian squad.

“I’m really thankful to have the chance to sign for another three years. Collingwood is a unique place, and I’m proud to call it my home,” Cameron shared in a club announcement.

“When I first got here, I only had one game played, and now I’ve played over 100 games. The Pies trusted me, and I will always appreciate the growth and chances I’ve had since joining the club. Choosing to stay with Collingwood was an easy choice. This club means a lot to me, and now feels like the perfect time to commit again. We have a fantastic group here, including the players, coaches, and all the staff, and I’m eager to see what we can accomplish in the next few years. ”

Magpies list manager Justin Leppitsch commented, “Darcy has become a significant part of our team, both on and off the field. ”

“His hard work, leadership, and team-focused attitude set a great example for everyone around him, and we’re excited to see what he can do in the future. ”

Cameron’s decision is a big setback for West Coast, who were seen as strong contenders to sign him if he chose to leave the Magpies.

The Eagles have been searching for a top ruckman since Nic Naitanui’s last playing season in 2022 and are still looking for experienced players to join their young team.

37-year-old star Scott Pendlebury is also likely to re-sign with Collingwood and start an amazing 21st season in the AFL, while several other veteran players are awaiting new contracts with the club.
