Cincinnati Reds Near Regaining Their Reputation by Emerging as a Prime Contender in a Move Poised to Dramatically Reshape the Balance of Power Across the National League Central

The Baltimore Orioles recently promoted top catching prospect Samuel Basallo to the majors and wasted no time locking him into a long-term extension. While the move has thrilled most fans in Baltimore, it casts doubt on the future of current catcher Adley Rutschman. With Basallo now secured for nearly a decade, Rutschman could become a trade candidate as soon as this offseason.

According to FanSided’s Christopher Kline, the Cincinnati Reds stand out as a strong potential landing spot should the Orioles decide to move on from Rutschman. Kline pointed out that Cincinnati is shaping up as a long-term contender in the NL Central, with Elly De La Cruz just beginning to realize his MVP-level potential, and pitchers Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott entering their prime years.

“Adding Adley Rutschman to that core would immediately give Cincinnati one of the best catchers in the game and elevate them to a legitimate threat to win the division,” Kline wrote. “With Milwaukee and Chicago still in the hunt, Rutschman’s star power—under team control through 2027—could be a huge advantage.”

The Reds also have the prospect depth to make a serious offer. Pitching prospects such as Rhett Lowder or Chase Petty could headline a deal, while a young arm like Nick Lodolo might also be part of the package. On Baltimore’s side, moving Rutschman would give them a chance to bolster their rotation with more MLB-ready pitching talent.

Although the Orioles aren’t under pressure to deal Rutschman, if the right trade package comes along, it could be difficult for them to turn down.
